If coming from Loi Kroh road along Thapae soi 1 the bars are on the left at the end of the Night Bazaar parking lot. Secrets is at the end of the row with CU Bar in the middle. 04/11/11 Our friends at Chiang Mai Gay News have an excellent article on Loi Krathong or Yee Peng as it’s called in Northern Thailand. It explains many of the customs and what will happen. In Chiang Mai they make a lot more of it than we do in Pattaya. It’s a great event with parades and it lasts over several days. You can read all about it here. 03/10/11 From our Chiang Mai partner – Chiang Mai Gay News – we quote the following: “Latest bar news is Chiang Mai Gay bar La Vie En Rose has closed down. Owner Krit had already sold the adjoining restaurant some months ago and has been trying to sell the bar too; seems he gave up and shut the doors. We understand the restaurant is still open, but under the new ownership and all the gay staff have gone. ” For their full article and some pictures click here.

06/09/11 DT‘s bar in the so called “sleaze alley” in the Night market in Chiang Mai has closed. There is a rumour the site will be redeveloped in the coming months so these bars may not have a long term future anyway. Of course, as with the Peak Bars further along the soi it took a couple of years from the announcement of closure until the bulldozers finally moved in so this may be another slow and painful death. From the general state of the place re-investment in cleaning and maintenance has obviously already ceased. Information from

05/09/11 Further to our previous announcement on the future of Mike formerly from La Cage in Pattaya, we have more information now. Mike is apparently opening a new up-market beer bar. It has been rumoured to be at the former Doi Boy location in the Chang Puek area of Chiang Mai and will be called the “Sky Club“ though we haven’t been able to confirm that. His idea is to surround the drinker in a lavish environment, and he has a backer to help set the place up and take care of local issues. His “no expense spared” approach will ensure that you can get the best drinks in a great setting, and the staff will make sure your every desire is taken care of. We understand they also intend offering a show late in the evening. More details when we get

27/08/11 We hear that the Immigration authorities are getting stricter again. We have heard that one year multiple entry “O” Visas have been discontinued in England. You can now only get 6 monthly ones. We also hear the requirements for the 60 day Tourist Visa have been ramped up. You now need copies of a Hotel reservation showing your check-in and -out dates and also a copy of your airline ticket showing your onward travel out of Thailand. There currently appears to be no change to the misleading named “Visa on arrival” rules. Maybe this will herald the start of an even greater clampdown. Watch this space for news as we receive it.

UPDATE – there is a lot of confusion over the new Visa requirements. Some places are requiring some things, others different things. My best advice is check before you apply for the current requirements at the place you are applying. When/if the requirements settle down, I’ll try to post some clarification.

24/08/11 Soul bar, Chiang Mai – changed owners again and doesn’t seem to have many boys there.

24/08/11 La La Bar, Chiang Mai – Seems to open at random during rainy season. If anyone knows more please let me know.

24/08/11 Oasis Karaoke, Chiang Mai – closed already! Apparently the payments exceeded the income – not surprising given the location.

22/08/11 News from Clubilicious in Chiang Mai – this Saturday will be their last party at Shangri La. See the Chiang Mai page for all the details of this event!

05/08/11 There’s a new massage place in Chiang Mai near the Thaphae Gate. Five on Changmoi has not been open long but is already getting great revues. If you go there let us know what you think.

04/08/11 Powerboys in Chiang Mai has closed. If anything happens with this site we will let you know! The old Lavender Lana Hotel became the Sri Tokyo some time ago.

26/07/11 Soupasteak in the Huay Kaew Road in Chiang Mai has closed. It’s re-opened as “Pern’s Mediterranean Restaurant” – upscale, new interior, new menu and new feel. Although not gay, it’s a favourite of the gay crowd.

26/07/11 The rumours flying around the last two weeks have finally been confirmed; gregarious Chiang Mai socialite and owner of the popular Soho Bar and Guest House, Scott Taylor is selling up! The deal is done and the new owners Shauna and Rabbit will be taking over from 1st August 2011. For all the information on this see our friends in Chiang Mai – Gay news.
