Antz Restaurant

antzNice modern restaurant at the end of one of the sois. It specialises in Thai cuisine although they do offer a Western menu as well. It’s bright, cheap and friendly. Well worth a visit.

Aquarius Restaurant

It’s really nice here. You can get a good three course set meal for around 380B (maybe a tad on the high side?) The menu changes every day, but typically when I went there was Parma Ham and melon, grilled chicken breast and a desert. I opted for the lamb shank (not on the set menu) with minted potatoes and it was delicious. Again at 335B maybe a bit pricey? But the quality was there.

Not bad is my report. Try it!

L’Arc Restaurant

L'ArcA restaurant with French cuisine. It’s very good and the prices are not too bad. The menu is adventurous, including such things as roasted Camembert in honey and rabbit chasseur. The flavours are good.

Of all the places in the Complex, this has to be one of the better ones to eat. The board outside gives the menu, which will get your taste buds going on its own!

They have a facebook page with the details. Just go to facebook and search for “L Arc Jomtien” or click here

Give it a try!

Bistro Oscar @ Poseidon

In a quiet way, the new restaurant at the Poseidon Hotel – Bistro Oscar – has recently opened. The former restaurant closed a while ago, the place was gutted and the new Bistro has opened on time.

It’s really nice. I’ve been there for breakfast – it is now open for dinner, but they’re gathering evening staff and have asked we be “understanding” till they are up to full compliment. The breakfast staff were impeccable and we can’t blame them for wanting to train the evening staff to the same standard. We did look at the dinner menu and it looks interesting – can’t wait to try it.

The breakfast, however, is now wonderful. There were a few teething troubles, but these all appear to be overcome and the food is superb. The price for breakfast es exactly right (175B), considering the quality of food you get. The egg menu is cooked to order, efficiently and well. My omelette was just about perfect. The rest of the buffet perfectly compliments it and was tasty, filling and slightly different. It made a very pleasant change.

The coffee in particular is worthy of note. It’s a specially imported arabica bean, from fair trade sources, and is roasted for Oscars specially. The flavour is wonderful and the breakfast includes as much as you want. If they keep on going as they are now, and the evening meals are as good as the breakfast, they will do very well indeed.

Cafe Ritz

cafe ritzThis is a strange place. I’ve never had a “normal” meal here. Having said that it’s always been good. The portions are huge, great bowls of vegetables accompany the meals, and the prices are fine. I always come out very full. But still, it’s a strange place. Visit it yourself and see if you agree. Try the roast, or the steak and kidney, they’re delicious!

Chok Dee Restaurant

Chok Dee is a great little restaurant. It’s a bit tucked away. Go down Thappraya almost to the beach at Jomtien, and 100m before the beach, there is an alley on the right leading to a small back soi. Take this alley and you’ll find it. There is a sign on Thappraya with an arrow pointing to the bar, but with all the other illuminated signs, it’s easy to miss.

The food is mainly Thai in style. It appears to have a slightly Anglicised touch, maybe because the owner spent a long time in England. But it’s really good. And for the price it’s nice value. You won’t get bothered and hassled here as it’s off the beaten track a bit.

Anyway, try it is all I can say (and I usually do!)

Claudio’s Residence and Restaurant

claudiosNice rooms and restaurant. The restaurant serves a mix of European and Thai. It’s a nice quality, if a tad pricey. The rooms are clean and a reasonable price. They are well appointed with all the expected amenities. Gives the other places in the area a good run for the money. Worth looking at.

Dick’s Cafe

dicksDicks is charming and comfortable. It’s a friendly place and does nice food all day. It’s open from 10 am to 1 am at night. They serve nice Thai food and Western food for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a late night snack. I’ve had many a nice wine there and they do good cocktails. Worth a try

Have a look at their really very good website here – www.dickscafe.com/jomtien

Dolce Vita Bar

This was a friendly bar before. Now it has expanded into the unit next door (which used to be Lub ov Boys) and they are doing amazing German food. Great place to sit, eat and enjoy the company of the boys. Wonderful atmosphere and the best quality German food around. Huge portions served by the legendary Erika.

They also have a guesthouse upstairs (Haus Mewie)

East Tapas Lounge

Now open! The old Pagoda restaurant has been converted by its owner into the “East Tapas” Lounge. It’s a great concept, but will it work in the Jomtien Complex? Only time will tell.

The food on the menu is tasty and the dishes are well prepared. They are a little pricey, but that reflects the quality in them. Seafood paella for two at 490B is a dishful and you won’t be hungry when you finish. The portions on the tapas itself are a little small, but at 60B each (or 5 for 250B) it’s great value for money. The choice is good. Some things are predictable, but some were new to me. Zucchini and tuna was a hit, as was the plum and bacon.

If you’re out for an adventure, try them. It makes a nice change.

Mignon Restaurant

mignonNice small restaurant on the main Thappraya Road. Does a “Happy Hour” deal from 5 to 6.30 – good menu for 199 Baht. The main menu is good and appetising. Not sure I really like dining at the side of a main road but apart from that a nice place. There are some real gems in the menu. The Fillet Mignon (using Thai beef) is wonderful. If anyone says Thai beef is poor, they only eat imported beef, try this and you will change your mind. The Rock Lobster Thermidore is another speciality that should be savoured!

Ole’s Restaurant

Nice restaurant in the Complex. They do Western and Thai food. I personally think their Thai is better than their Western, but both are good. They do a set menu on some days, other days it’s all a la carte. A main course is around 220B, spaghetti 180B and the Thai dishes are about 120B.

Good value for just good food!

L’Olivier Restaurant

L'OlivierThis is a gay friendly rather than gay restaurant. So you are less likely to find boys here, although I’ve been here before. It’s a popular restaurant offering a good selection of European (French) and Thai dishes and it’s comfortable. It is open in the evenings only. It’s not the cheapest but not the most expensive either!

Papa David’s Restaurant

papa davidFANTASTIC place for breakfast. You will often find me here is I can arrange it. Huge English breakfast for not too many Baht. However I have had mixed service and the terrace can be a bit hot. All in all I’d recommend it though for value and food. Lovely meals under 200 Baht.

Pizzeria Italia

This is a wonderful Italian restaurant, on the junction of the Thappraya Road and the Jomtien Complex. The food is really tasty!

They do everything from a really tasty minestrone soup, meatballs and of course pizza. Their grilled salmon is to die for and we really love their Penne pasta with a 4 cheese sauce. Bearing in mind the cost of cheese in Pattaya, and the taste of the dish, then the price (240B for a real plate full) is a good deal.

Anyway if you fancy Italian, give it a try!

Room Club

room clubA very select hotel on the beach at Dong Tan, Jomtien. You could not get more in the thick of the gay beach scene. The rooms are very deluxe and you get all the service you could want. Unfortunately the prices reflect that. They have a nice swimming pool and a fusion restaurant to tempt you. There are no joiner’s fees for guests.

Sea Falcon Restaurant

sea falconAs you walk from the Family mart on the corner of Thappraya Road to the gay beach at Dong Tan, you pass one of my secret favourites. The Sea Falcon is the perfect place for “brunch”. Their food is freshly cooked and gets served to you on plates with plastic covers. When all the dishes are laid out in front of the customers, the waiters pull the lids off with a flourish – a sort of modern day conjuring trick. I love the eggs benedict. You may well prefer something else, there’s plenty to choose from.

One word of warning, the coffee is great. If they offer you a refill ask for another cup of new coffee. The alternative is old brewed coffee from a tired coffee pot – not at all the same as the first cup!

But it’s a good place. Try it. And remember there is PLENTY of interest walking by to and from the beach!

Spring Onion

This is a really nice Thai restaurant. It’s well frequented by everyone in the Jomtien Complex. They love it. The food is good and cheap. The place is spotlessly clean and the service is friendly.

There’s not a lot to say about it, as it is “just another Thai restaurant”, but as they go, it’s one of the best. And it really makes a change from the normal grotty street-side kitchens.
