NOW CLOSED – RE-OPENED AS CASA DI ALICE

This is a brand new restaurant in the old Chez Vicky site. From what we had been lead to believe, we thought it was going to be Italian. But the rumours were untrue. In reality it’s a “café” style restaurant. The menu is interesting to say the least. It starts with “all-day” breakfasts starting at 130B. It then goes through the sandwiches and omelettes. On from there to pies and chips (240B), and finally into the entrées and steaks (280B). There’s a good Thai menu as well.

It all looks great. The atmosphere is too good for a pie and chips place, and they need to get a board outside to advertise what they do or people won’t know.

We went around 1pm and had the breakfast. It was well cooked. In fact it’s a refreshing change from the usual fare in Soi Day/Night. However we went back a couple of days later for a pie and chips and weren’t so impressed. At 240B the pies are expensive, and although there was nothing wrong, there was nothing outstanding either. The chips were frozen crinkle cut and the pies were shop bought. The cheeseburger at 160B was better value. Overall impression is that it’s a transport cafe menu being served in a high class establishment. The combination doesn’t sit right somehow … We shall see.

Oh and as a post script, why oh why do places serving ordinary food have to have the “carved carrot” in the salad garnish?
